Love One Another

One Sunday in church, the reading was drawn from a letter of St John, exploring God’s love for us and our love for one another (1 John 4). I was immediately struck by its essential truth: that in perfect love there is no fear. From that moment three years ago, it was in my mind to compose a hymn based on the passage. Though many have done so before me, I loved writing it and have now completed it (sheet music and sound sample).

Based on 1 John 4

1. Love one another, as God loves you;

those who love are born of the Lord.

He revealed His love when He sent His only Son,

So that we might live through Him.

Chorus

Our God is love, we will live in Him,

so that He may live in us.

In that perfect love we will have no fear,

for there is no fear in love.

2. He sent His Son to save the world

through His sacrifice and pain.

In His act of mercy, He washed away our sins,

and we are born again.

of peace throughout the land.

Love your brothers and sisters as God commands

with a love that never ends.
